Our club was chartered on February 1, 1989 under the name, “Toastmousters.” We were a Disney club and met in the Team Disney building. We were an open club, which meant anyone could join, regardless of whether they worked at Disney or not.
In April 1993, we were informed that the Disney Toastmasters club in California was made up of 100% Disney employees and in order to be consistent, our club membership would have to be the same. If we chose not to eliminate the non-Disney members from our club, we would no longer be able to meet on Disney property, and would not be able to keep the Disney name. We took a vote, and decided not to split up the club.
We chose the name Vista because it meant both “future” and “horizon.” We felt this was very appropriate, as we were sure that our future was bright, and good things were on the horizon.
